Harvest Party

Every year, the First Assembly of God in Ellettsville has a Harvest Party in the parking lot behind Arby's on Halloween night. It includes bouncy rides, games and free candy and food. For the past few years, the kids have choosen to go to the Harvest Party instead of going trick or treating. Given how dark our neighborhood is, that is fine by me.

I have never really been into the whole trick or treating thing that much, and although we did take Tiernan when he was 2 years old in a neighborhood of some good friends, and then the next year when he was 3 and Maeve was 1 we went to the local mall, which was NOT a good idea. Since then, Tiernan has choosen to do the Harvest Fest.
As you can tell, the kids don't dress up for it, and so far I have never had to worry with my kids, because they have never picked anything that I would not let them wear.

We have always enjoyed the Harvest Fest, although this year was not quite as good as in the past. It seemed like they had more difficulity getting people to work it this year, and so there were not as many people watching the kids on the bouncy rides, and some of the people watching were kids about the same age as those playing. I know that it can be really hard for a church to get people involved year after year in something, espically if they don't see the good in it, and it just seemed like this year, people weren't as willing to help out as in the past. Now I don't hold that against the church at all. Being in our church and working in VBS and Sunday School, I see it all too often. We'll probably be back again next year to see how it goes.

So thanks to the Ellettsville First Assembly of God for putting on the Harvest Fest, and to those who see my kids...they had a blast!

Saturday November 3rd - Thought

Lord, I thank You that You are the Healer. I look to You for my heling whenever I am injured or sick. I pray that You would strengthen and heal me today. I know that in your presence is where I will find healing. In Your presence I can reach out and touch You and in turn be touched by You.

Now, this is the prayer on my daily calander for saturday, and although I didn't read it on Saturday because it was on my desk at work....it fit for Saturday. I really wasn't feeling well, and had I been able to read this and focus on God that day, I know I would have felt so much better.

Now before anyone yells at me for trusting in the Lord for healing, let me say right off the bat, that I am the first to take the kids to the doctor if they are the least bit sick. That is not what I see in this prayer. I see that turning to God when you are sick, or even just feelign down, laying it all in his hands and he will met the needs you have, it might be healing, but it might be a warm touch that reminds you that you are a human and worthy of love.

My prayer today? That each of you that reads this might be touched by the hand of God and know that he loves you just as you are, and that you a loved.

Saturday October 27

Eagles Landing....it's the old elementary school in town that has been converted into little shops. Every year on the saturday before Halloween they have trick or treating at the shops and then games in the gym and free food. The kids love to go.

So these are my little "monsters" this year. Tiernan and Maeve are matching Ninjas and Molly is a clown. She talked about being a clown for weeks before this! What a good time.

They had so much fun, as did we.
Memories like this are special, because they are growing so fast and before I know it they will be gone and off at college and starting their own lives, so I am treasuring these memoires as they happen.

Accomplishments

Some accomplishments in life are bigger today than they will be in the future, but we are living in today, and so little accomplishments mean the world, espically to us moms.

This is Tiernan, my one and only son, mama's boy....of course right now he doesn't mind be called that but I am sure that will change before I know it.
The top picture is of Tiernan showing off his Bobcat Badge that he received Tuesday night.
The bottom picture is of Tiernan right before the Cub Scouts meeting.
He has every right to be pretty proud of that badge. He worked hard for it, and he has only been in Cub Scouts since the end of August, first week of September and he already has that badge and is well on his way to his Wolf Badge.
He's proud, and if you can't tell mom is a little proud too. I am proud of how hard he worked. My little boy is growing up!

Thought for the Day, October 4

So many of us live with depression and accept it without even realizing it. The good news is that God doesn't want us to live with these feelings. He wants us to have the joy of the Lord rise in us and chase away spirits of heaviness. God wants us to cry out to Him so He can lift us out of depression.

Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity; for the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. Th Lord has heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer.
Psalm 6:8-9

This is a difficult verse for me, as I have fought with depression much of my adult life steaming from my weight and low self-esteem. I daily have to remind myself that God is there and will easliy lift me out of the depression if I will only give him the chance. I need to turn to him, and he will make me happy.
